VMware Release 3.5 3i
During Xmas/New Year period (20/12/2007) VMware released to download the ESX3i release. It passed me by because on that day I was moving house! If you read the release notes hardware support for the downloadable version is limited “ESX Server 3i Installable is supported only on Dell 2950 (full support) and on HP DL380 G5 (experimental support).” This is to be expected given that most people will get ESX 3i embedded into their hardware purchase.
