Well, the above comes DIRECTLY quoted from a VMware Education email which is sent to all VATCs and VCIs. In fact its from part that says "What can we tell customers" hence the reason its on the blog. It repeats what was stated at NDA session for instructors at Canne this year - unfortunately we weren't allowed to tell anybody back then. So to repeat. You do NOT need to attend a training course in vSphere4 to become certified if you have Vi3 VCP, you merely have to pass the exam.

IF you think about it makes sense. If you have Vi3 VCP you might have only got it yesterday and been on the beta programme since 2008. Attending a 2-day what's new course to someone who's been the beta programme for a year would NOT beneficial. However, VMware isn't in the habit of handing out current VCPs, so you have to prove you vSphere4 knowledge by passing an exam.

Remember you only have until December 31, 2009. After then you will have to take the course AND the exam, rather than just the exam...

I am a VCP in VI3 and have been since early 2008. Contrary to what you've written, I was told that in will remain certified just by attending the "vSphere4: What's new" 2 day course. Do I also need to pass the VCP on vSphere4 exam?
