Mike’s in the Mountains – Part Two

Well, I’ve had some more time in the mountains since getting back from the User Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina. Actually, one of these videos was taken the day I arrived but didn’t get time to pull the video of my camcorder and re-encoded it until yesterday. So there’s one video where I show you where I am staying, and the other two videos are of me taking a break from the booky wook and playing my guitar.

Yesterday I took a walk in the dem der hills. Got a little lost in the forest… Walked about 6 miles in the mid-day sun in away that only mad dogs and Englishmen do! After doing this blog post I’m going to carry on to Gatlinberg which is in the Smokey Mountains, but technically not even in the same state as where I’m staying. I’m in Bryson City, NC but Gatlinberg is in TN. Main reason to drive there is to see some scenary and get some good driving in – but also because Gatlinberg is mentioned in the Johnny Cash song “A boy named Sue”. I want it to have as a claim to fame that I’ve actually been there.

Anyway, the videos:

Nice to meet you in Charlotte Mike. Glad you’re getting on well with your book and the new guitar. The blues slide work you were doing in the second half of the third video was great. I’ve been making some three string cigar box style guitars and trying to learn how to play them. Just tune it to Open A or Open G and use a slide.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and it’s productive.

    Mike,

Did you survive your trip to the Mountains? Just curious that you haven’t posted since the beginning of the month.

Yes, I’m not dead (yet). Just went stri8 from the US to Norway to do some work there. And been busy finishing up my vSphere4 book – so blogging has taken a back seat whilst I get that done. Planning a blog fest next week when I will have some free time. Thinking of just doing a video – because I could probably talk faster than I can blog!

I love your book and I’m a guitarist as well. I prefer the electric guitar, EMG pickups, and a lot of distortion, but I find your playing beautiful. Keep up the good work! Your book is great! I will be sure to quote it in my VMware classes.

@Dennis. Yeah, watching this back again. I’d forgotten what hell I was going thru with that book. Perhaps I should play this back before I start a new book! Thanks for your kind comments about my playing – just noodling you know! :-D
