The way I did the repair is probably different - so I had different experiences. You see i've been a naughty naughty boy. I've managed to "frig" a Windows Authentication with SQL2005 installation, even though its not offical supported. So I logged in as my SRM DB account (which has local admin rights, although the account is in AD) and did the upgrade using those credentials....

Just a side note on the SRM repair feature; I'm finding that running repair from the \Programs and Features\ on Server 2008 as a local Administrator is not sufficient. The snapin fails to fully load. The workaround is to execute the original installable via right click \run as administrator\. I've started keeping the most recent install file on local disk for all vCenter/SRM/VUM servers.

BTW, you served as a great reminder of the repair feature. Saved my at 7PM on a Friday night from what I feared would be a rebuild! :)

I had three ESXi boxes, two were fine & the third was "disconnected" and couldn't be reconnected. I ended up rebuilding the host, being ESXi it was easy. All threee passed the upgrade check that comes with U1.
It's probably a good idea to install the vCLI on your PC before the upgrade and use the "vicfg-cfgbackup" command to back up the configuration of any ESXi boxes.

My two ESXi boxes had the HP build of ESXi 4.0.0 and upgraded without issue to 4.0.0U1.

Thanks for the ping back, Vladan. It's good to know that I'm not alone in this experience - but then again - I wish it was just me - this going to be a major PITA for ESXi users...

Hi Mike,

Even with only one ESXi host in my "datacenter" the host disconnects from the datacenter. My vCenter is in a VM..

I thought that it could complete your lenghty (but awesome) experience .... -:)
