Mike’s Music – A Veritable Feast of Delights

Well, I’ve been stacking these up for sometime. A veritable feast of music delights to assail your ear since Christendom was created.

Look there whole load of videos here – so if you into music – click to see them…

First up is this guy called Eric Mongrain who is one outstanding guitarist – he’s got style of playing which I’ve always dreamed of playing – but dismissed as physically impossible. Eric shows us it is.

Next up are The Unthanks. They are band close to my heart because they are from Northumberland – not far from where I was born. Yes, they are quite folky – but I love the fact they sing with Northern accents – rather than usual X-Factor style ooooh-yeah-yeah-baby hand in the air style that has become the unfortunate norm. To you yanks out there they will sound Irish or Scotish – and to tell you the truth thats quite understanding. The North of England has close ties to the Gaels – my own family has ancestory dating back to Donegal in Ireland – and we believe there’s a Scottish link too!

There’s another track by them called the “Lucky Gilchrist” which I believe is a song about a guy they grew up with. There is some dance with clog dancing in this – CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!

OK, the Northumbera folk scene not you bag. Perhaps you more a soul man? Well, get your lug holes around this singer. She’s from Paris, but has such a terrific soul voice you would think she was from the US. I mean true class soul voice – think of someone like Nina Simone – rather than the RnB junk which is touted as RnB nowadays (yeah, ok I’m old school!). At times her gestures can be bit little distracting – if that’s the case for you – turn up the volume and close your eyes.

Now this is the famous Gladys Night. Increasing Jools is doing these half rehearsed numbers with his latest guest – this is just fantastic. I mean real class. They just don’t make singers like this woman anymore!
