NetApp+VMware+VDM
I’ve known for sometime that there is an incredibly strong relationship that can be forged by using NetApp Storage with their DeDupe and FlexClone technology – and VMware. Using the two products can massive reduce the storage demands the virtual disks create – especially when you decide to embrace the concept of VDI. With the release of VMware’s VDM, I’m look again at the whole virtual desktop concept – perhaps even considering writing a guide to VDM.
Anyway, if you want to learn more about this relationship. There are some good resources online. Not least this youtube.com presentation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Miv0PiJFzM entitled “VMware VDI on NetApp, 100 clients; 13 mins; 10 GB used”…
Another interesting article is this customer story here on SearchServerVirtualization.com
VMware VDI takes flight with NetApp deduplication
Now all I need to do is get my hands on a NetApp box (if that isn’t too unsubtle a hint!)
